SPACE presents HOT METAL

Opening Reception, with music by Cello Fourte – January 25, 5:30-9:00pm
PITTSBURGH—In conjunction with The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s quarterly Gallery Crawl, SPACE presents the exhibition Hot Metal. The opening reception of Hot Metal will feature music by Cello Fourte—a Pittsburgh-based rock cello performance group.
All of the pieces in the exhibit showcase metal as the artistic medium; Hot Metal incorporates innovative and contemporary uses of a versatile and timeless medium. Art pieces range from using traditional blacksmith techniques to the creation of fantastical caricatures from tinfoil.
Guest curated by Ed Parrish, Hot Metal showcases the work of local, national, and international artists. Participating artists include Rick Bach, Pati Beachley, Joey Hays, Michael Dominick, Glen Gardner, Gavin Kenyon, Kenneth Patrick Payne, Tim Kaulen, Peter Lambert, Michael Walsh, Cal Lane, Oleh Bonkovikyy, Gary Smith, Carley Jean Parrish, Ed Parrish Jr.
Ed Parrish has a BFA in Sculpture from East Carolina University. He has previously exhibited work at The Mattress Factory and SPACE; he is also participating in the upcoming Pittsburgh Biennial at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. This past summer, Parrish and his wife participated in a performance series, called Hot Metal Happenings, which featured demonstrations with metal.
